Damage indices evaluation for one-dimensional guided wave-based structural health monitoring

چکیده

Damage detection in structures and systems is essential for monitoring parameters that can affect their integrity. This paper evaluates the efficiency of four damage indices (DIs) commonly used with temporal wave signals. The root mean square deviation, absolute percentage covariance, correlation coefficient deviation DIs are presented, a normalization then proposed. An Euler-Bernoulli beam as guided modelled spectral element method excited by toneburst signal. It includes theoretical background throw-off beam, undamaged cracked elements. single crack position map varying depth positions calculated deterministic random signal responses derived from noise addition. Results showed could identify quantify conditioned to pulse location point influence estimation, which leads an analysis comparable practical applications.

Finite-dimensional piezoelectric transducer modeling for guided wave based structural health monitoring

Among the various schemes being considered for structural health monitoring (SHM), guided wave (GW) testing in particular has shown great promise. While GW testing using hand-held transducers for non-destructive evaluation (NDE) is a well established technology, GW testing for SHM using surface-bonded/embedded piezoelectric wafer transducers (piezos) is relatively in its formative years. Little...

Modeling guided wave propagation for structural health monitoring applications

In this paper a Semi-Analytical Finite Element (SAFE) method for modeling wave propagation in waveguides of arbitrary cross-section is discussed. The method requires the finite element discretization of the cross-section of the waveguide by assuming harmonic motion along the wave propagation direction. The general SAFE technique is extended to account for viscoelastic material damping by allowi...

Efficient temperature compensation strategies for guided wave structural health monitoring.

The application of temperature compensation strategies is important when using a guided wave structural health monitoring system. It has been shown by different authors that the influence of changing environmental and operational conditions, especially temperature, limits performance. This paper quantitatively describes two different methods to compensate for the temperature effect, namely opti...
